These miniature glycerine “hatchet” soaps were made by me and donated to the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast in limited supply. They sold in the gift shop for $5.00 each, I think – maybe $3.50 not sure. Anyway, they are quite the collector item now.
May 17, 1993 – cancelled check payable to Josephine McGinn signed by Martha McGinn in the amount of $10,000. Josephine was the wife of (then deceased) John McGinn, past owner of Leary Press and 230 (“92”) Second Street. Martha McGinn was their grand-daughter and, along with Ron Evans, inherited both Leary Press and the abutted structure. How I acquired this cancelled check is less a mystery than what happened to the missing hatchet.

This is Louis Gonzague Destremps and his family around 1904. He is best known as the architect who designed Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, but also designed the Fall River Armory, St Mathieu’s Church and many others in the area. He was also my 3rd great grandfather.

The Five and Dimes in Fall River in the 1950s. These were Downtown, in the Flint, in the Globe and in the Highlands. If you were born in the 1940s or 1950s you probably shopped at these stores. All of them sold inexpensive candy and toys that were important to children. Which one had the best toy department? Please share your memories and additional photos.

In 1962 when Fall River City Hall was demolished, an effort was made to save and preserve multiple building artifacts. You can see three of these artifacts around Fall River today. At least three items were saved and preserved/ (1) The eagle from the steeple. (2) The steeple bell and chimes, the Watson Chimes. (3) The columns from the front of building
